Future of online forums as schooling
The online forums have developed through the time and know you can find a discussion group in almost anything you can dream about. From socializing sites about cars, dolls, countries, traveling, dreams, pregnancy, marriage, wedding, dresses, pets to atomic bombs, pirates, molecular development and so on.
Having this image in mind we can think of online forums as a form of schooling. Can you imagine for a second having your classes in the living room and having access to all your topics anytime you wish? Or can you see how simple can be to ask questions even if you are shy and you don’t dare in a normal class, without any hesitation? Or having the possibilities to explore more a specific topic you like without asking for tutorials from your teacher? Or having the chance to ask specialists in a domain you love questions you never thought of asking your own teachers?
This can be the image of the school in future. Of course we don’t say that traditional school is bad, but why not give our students the chance to develop and grow in an area or domain they love to. It is really important to have basic information in every science, but why not creating a space where our students can ask and find out the answers in their favorite domain. As we can see nowadays, it is very useful to be the best in one or two areas than knowing a little bit of everything and this way not knowing anything. The future is for the specialists and by creating, let’s says in parallel online forums as a form of schooling can help the students become those specialists. It’s true that not every student would agree with this, but why not giving them the chance to try.
If you think that these days children don’t like to learn anymore, but only to be online for socializing and playing games and watch movies, you already have the prejudice that cut the wings of most of our children. In fact it is our fault as parents and teacher that we don’t make the science and knowledge desirable. Why don’t we find ways of attracting our children towards knowledge using their favorite methods of learning: the computer and the internet? This is the future. In this world where busy and fast are the two most common words on our lips, think about a method of helping our children to take their time to learn and discover the world using their tools?
I don’t think we are very far from that point. We just need to be open- minded and realize we can use the “enemy” as a friend in our children’s education. We can use the online forums not only for socializing but also as a method of teaching. Just take a moment to think about it.
